The ideal pH value when using chlorine and chlorine-free water disinfection is 7.0 - 7.4. If the pH leaves this defined area, there is a decrease in effectiveness and an increase in disinfectant consumption. At low pH (pH < 7.2), metal parts of pools and hot tubs corrode and the colours of plastics and films in the pool and hot tub fade more quickly. At high pH (> 7.6), the water becomes cloudy and algae forms. Irritation of the conjunctiva and skin can also occur.
